That $40 laser level made me eat my words on cheap tools

I bought a cheap laser level at a hardware store in Phoenix to hang some shelves. Talked trash about it for a week, figured it would be a gimmick. Setup was way faster than my old bubble level and string trick. The line stayed dead straight across a 12 foot wall, no drift at all. Then I used it for baseboard trim and crown molding, saved me maybe 3 hours of fiddling. Has anyone else had a budget tool totally surprise them like this?

Ever notice how the cheap stuff that works always makes you question the expensive stuff you bought before? I had a $15 stud finder do the same thing to me last spring. It found every single stud behind my plaster walls, even the ones my old $80 detector missed completely. I ended up trusting it so much I hung a heavy wall cabinet with it, and three months later it's still holding up fine. Kind of makes you wonder what else we're overpaying for out there.
