Ripped out a shower tile wall twice before I saw the waterproofing mistake

I spent 3 weeks on a bathroom reno in Tacoma and thought I was done, then mold showed up behind the niche 4 months later. Turns out I hung the cement board before sealing the joints, so water crept through for over a hundred days. Anyone else find out the hard way that waterproofing order matters more than tile spacing?
