Rant: I handed my old roommate a $650 security deposit and all I got back was a text saying 'we're even'
When I moved out of our place in Sacramento two years ago, I fronted the full $650 deposit myself because he swore he'd pay me his half by the end of the first month. He never did, and every time I brought it up he'd change the subject or say money was tight, which was funny since he was buying $80 video games every Friday. Then when we moved out, the landlord docked $200 for a hole in the wall he made during a fight with his girlfriend, and my roommate just texted me 'we're even, I won't ask you for the last month of utilities.' That math is not even close to even, and I let it slide because I didn't want a fight. How do you all handle a roommate who owes you cash without turning the whole apartment into a war zone?
