Can we talk about the 4AM sourdough panic at my sister's house
Tbh, last month I was staying with my sister in Portland and she forgot to feed her starter for like 2 days. She woke up at 4AM screaming about it, and we spent an hour trying to revive it with warm water and rye flour. It actually came back, but the bread she made that afternoon tasted more like a science experiment than sourdough. Has anyone else had a starter that survived a total neglect spell, or was mine just weirdly stubborn?
Left my starter in the fridge for a week once during a move and it came back fine after a couple feedings, smells like nail polish remover at first but that goes away. The bread from a stressed starter does taste off though, kind of sour in a bad way like it fermented too fast. Give it a few normal feedings before baking again and it should go back to normal.
