My neighbor's oven almost burned down her kitchen last month

She left a pie in for an extra 20 minutes and the filling bubbled over, catching fire on the heating element. It happened in her apartment on Maple Street. Has anyone else had a close call with a bubbled-over pie filling?

That sounds so scary, glad it was just a close call. Honestly, it makes you wonder if newer ovens have any safety features for that. Like, do the fancy ones with air fryer modes just shut off if something starts to smoke? My old one sure doesn't.

Right, perry.skyler, the old ones definitely don't shut off! My ancient oven filled the whole house with smoke last Thanksgiving because of a peach pie disaster. It was the same thing, just a crazy bubble over that hit the bottom. Makes you really watch the timer, doesn't it? I bet those newer models have to handle it better, but who can afford one.
