PSA: my credit union holds my paycheck for 2 days, my brokerage cash shows up same morning
I get paid by direct deposit at 12:01am on Fridays. For 4 years I thought that money was "in my account" because my bank app showed it, but the available balance stayed $0 until Saturday morning. Last month I moved my direct deposit to my brokerage's cash account and the full $2,340 was spendable by 8am Friday. It matters because my rent autopay hits Friday at noon and I ate a $35 late fee twice in 2023 over this. Is this a normal thing with banks or is mine just slow?
