Stopped by a small credit union in Portland and noticed something cool

I went into a local credit union branch in Portland last week to deposit a check, and they had this little corner setup with a free coin counter for members. No fee, no wrapping required. It's not a big thing, but I saved like $12 in Coinstar fees over the last few months by just holding onto my change and hitting that machine. Has anyone else noticed credit unions doing small stuff like this that big banks just don't bother with?

$47 from cup holder coins? I would have passed out right there in the lobby.

oh man, yes, this is exactly the kind of stuff that makes me glad I switched. I was at a credit union in Seattle a few months back and they let me use their coin counter too, no questions asked. I had this big jar of quarters and dimes from my car's cup holder that I'd been ignoring for like a year. It took maybe ten minutes and I walked out with $47 in cash. Big banks would have charged me or told me to roll it myself, which I hate doing because my fingers always hurt after. Plus the credit union teller was super nice about it, didn't even make me feel weird for bringing in a dusty jar. It's those little perks that really add up, you know? Like, why would I ever go back to a place that nickel and dimes me for just wanting to use my own money.
