That $200 'credit repair' service did nothing but drain my wallet

Signed up for a credit repair service back in March thinking they could scrub some old collections off my report. Paid $200 upfront and then $79 a month for 3 months. All they did was send dispute letters I could have mailed myself. My score actually dropped 15 points because they kept poking at accounts that were about to age off naturally. Total waste of $437. Has anyone else tried these services and gotten the same nothing burger? What do you actually do to fix your credit without handing over cash to these middleman outfits?
