TIL the average cash transaction costs a merchant about 8 cents, but a card swipe runs closer to 25
I was reading a breakdown from the Federal Reserve's 2022 payments study last week and it stopped me cold. Turns out handling physical cash is not the money pit people keep claiming, at least at the register. For a small shop doing 200 sales a day, that gap adds up to almost $25,000 a year, which explains why my barber in Tacoma started pushing folks toward cash. Curious if any other small business owners here have run their own numbers on this.
