Hit 100 banned books on my library card app and that number stopped feeling like a stat
I started keeping a list on my phone every time a school board in Texas or Florida pulled a title, and this week it hit 100. The one that got me was a copy of The Bluest Eye with a sticky note from a kid that said "this is the first book where I saw my mom." A parent in my town stood up at a meeting 3 weeks ago and said that book gave her daughter nightmares, so it had to go. But the same woman never once mentioned the school library still has 40 other titles about the same stuff, she just wanted that one gone. What I keep seeing is that most challenges are not about one book, they are about a single sentence pulled out of a whole story. Has anyone else watched a challenge start with one book and then spread to a whole shelf in under a year?
