TIL Fahrenheit 451 was banned in a Texas school district because it mentions burning books

I grew up in a small town near Waco and didn't read Fahrenheit 451 until I was 30. The irony hit me when I found out a district in my own state pulled it from a 9th grade reading list in 2018. They said it was for language and violence, but the real reason was a parent group that didn't like the anti-censorship message. Has anyone else run into a book being banned for the exact thing it warns about?

Literally tripped over myself laughing at the irony when I realized my copy of the book was sitting on the "banned books" display at the library. Guess the joke's on me for being too slow to read it before they took it away.

Sat down to read that exact book about five years ago and got distracted by a squirrel outside the window. Lost my place, never found it again, and now I guess the squirrels won. At least you got to laugh about it. I was just stuck feeling like the world's slowest reader with bad timing.
