Client told me my fades were too "swoopy" last week

He said the transition from the 1 to the 2 looked like a roller coaster, so I started using a clipper over comb more to flatten it out... has anyone else had a customer get that specific about blend lines?

Fades are supposed to look smooth, not like a damn wave pool. If a client wants a hard line instead of a swoop, that's on them for not knowing what a good fade actually looks like. Hammering a clipper over comb to kill any curve is gonna leave you with a blocky, unnatural blend that screams barber school apprentice. Most people pay extra for that seamless swoop you were giving him, so don't let one picky customer ruin your whole technique. Sounds like he needs to get his eyes checked or stick to a buzz cut.

Watched a barber on YouTube last week explain the exact same thing you just said, and it made me rethink everything I thought I knew about fades. I used to be the guy who would ask for that hard line because I thought it looked sharper, but now I see how it kills the whole flow of the cut. You really changed how I look at a good fade, I'm gonna give the swoop a shot next time.
