Switched from taping name tags to using sticker sheets for new hires
I used to write out name tags one by one for each new cashier at my grocery store here in Portland. It took forever, especially when we'd hire 4 people at once for the summer rush. About 6 months ago, I started ordering those perforated sticker sheets online. Now I just type all the names into a template on my laptop, print them out, and peel them off as needed. It saves me maybe 20 minutes per batch of new hires. The trick is getting the font size right so they don't look squished. Has anyone else found a faster way to handle store badges or labels?

A buddy of mine who manages a small bookstore tried something different. She bought a label maker that prints on thermal tape, no ink needed. She types the names in and it spits them out in like 5 seconds each. The downside is the tape costs more than sticker sheets, so it adds up if you hire a lot. She said the font looks cleaner than printing on perforated sheets though. She ended up switching back to sticker sheets after a few months because the label maker ran out of battery at the worst times. Sticking with what works is probably the safest bet.

Oh totally, my last name is 14 letters long so I feel this DEEP. I bought a thermal label maker thinking I was being smart and efficient, but then the battery died right as I was labeling 50 jars for a craft fair. @jana_miller31 I ended up hand writing half of them with a sharpie that was almost out of ink. The font DID look sharp for the first 12 labels though, I'll give her that. I'm back to sticker sheets now too, but I still daydream about that crisp thermal print look sometimes.
