Warning: don't reset a frozen register before checking the drawer

Last Friday at the diner, a register locked up mid-order and my first instinct was to reboot it. Turned out the drawer was jammed shut with 3 hours of cash still inside, so the reboot cleared the transaction log and we couldn't verify the count. Took me 20 minutes to manually reconcile with the customer receipts, and now I always peek under the till first. Anyone else had a panic reset backfire like that?
