Hot take: a seized seatpost in a steel frame is a rite of passage

Had a customer's vintage Schwinn in the stand last Tuesday, and the post was absolutely frozen after 20 years. A mix of ammonia and patience over two days finally got it to budge. Anyone have a better trick for that specific steel-on-steel bond?

Ugh, that's the worst. It feels like half of fixing old stuff is just waiting for the right chemical to do its thing lol.

Ammonia is a bold choice, did you ever worry about it messing with the paint or brazing? I've always stuck with a penetrating oil cocktail because I'm scared of causing more damage.
