I finally popped a tube 2 blocks from the shop and the spare I grabbed was the wrong valve
Was heading home last Tuesday around 11pm, dark, tired, and about 2 blocks from the shop my rear tire just went flat with a loud hiss. No big deal, I carry a spare tube. Pulled the wheel, got the tire off with one lever, grabbed the spare from my bag, and the valve was a Presta when my rim is drilled for Schrader. Stood there on the sidewalk holding a useless tube for a minute just laughing at myself. Two riders passed and neither one had a pump or a patch, so I ended up walking it back. Anyone else keep a mixed bag of spare tubes and grab the wrong one at the worst time?
Man that is SO frustrating, especially that late at night when you just want to get home. I've done the same thing more than once, my bag is a total mess of tubes and I never check the valve until I'm stuck on the side of the road. The worst part is you had it RIGHT there in your hand and it still didn't help. Honestly I started taping a little piece of tape on each tube with the valve type written on it, sounds dumb but it saves me. Keeping my fingers crossed your next flat happens in daylight with the right tube already in your bag.
