PSA: Swapping to a lighter hammer gave me way more control on fine work.
I stuck with my heavy one for years, but seeing the crisp lines on a leaf scroll changed my mind.

Yeah took me way too long to learn that.
Honestly fought the idea forever, felt like lighter meant less serious. My arm would get so tired forcing that heavy weight around for detail stuff. Took a buddy pointing out my hammer was doing the work, not me. Switched and it was like my wrist suddenly knew what to do. You don't realize how much you're fighting your own tool until you stop.

That moment when your wrist knows what to do sounds great, but I've always found a heavier hammer gives me more control for real power swings. The extra weight drives the nail with less effort from me, so I'm not straining as much on big jobs. Maybe it's not about fighting the tool, but picking the one that matches the work you're doing.

Wait you were using a heavy hammer for detail work? That's wild, no wonder your arm got tired. A framing hammer would be way too much for trim or small nails. It's like trying to crack an egg with a sledgehammer, you're gonna make a mess. The right tool for the job isn't just a saying, it saves your body.
