Zebra pattern on 1084 after quench, figured out the cause

Kept getting these bright and dark stripes along the edge after oil quenching, thought my heat was off. Turned out I was pulling the blade out of the quench too slow and letting it air cool in stages, now I dunk it straight down and the pattern is gone. Anyone else fight this with thinner stock?
