PSA: I used to print out every single email for filing and it took me hours every Friday.

Remember @noran21's sign-offs? Same useless pain.

Cleaning a flue in an old farmhouse outside Boise made me miss the old ways.

Yeah, you hit on something real. Last time I had to repoint some mortar, the new mix just didn't grip the same. Felt like spreading butter, not like you were locking the stones in for another hundred years. You lose that feel in your hands, and the whole thing becomes just a task to finish.

My whole view on houseplants flipped after a single trip to the hardware store in Tacoma

That part about killing plants by caring too much is so real. It made me wonder if some of us just have a "rescue complex" with plants, where we overwater and fuss to feel useful. The ones that do best are often the ones we forget about for a bit, which is a weird little life lesson.

Had a laptop board in yesterday that kept shorting after a liquid spill clean, turned out the guy before me left a tiny piece of conductive foam under a chip.

Honestly though, is a tiny bit of foam really enough to cause a full short? Seems like it would have to be in a very specific spot to bridge something important. Tbh I've seen boards run with way worse leftover junk after a clean. Maybe the short was from something else and the foam was just sitting there.

A customer at the hardware store in Bellingham asked me a question I couldn't answer.

What's the worst outcome you've seen from someone faking it?
