Almost lost a $60 expansion to a loose cup holder last Wednesday

Was playing a 4-hour game of Twilight Imperium at a meetup in Portland when someone's drink tipped over my area tray, and I barely saved my faction sheet and tokens by catching the edge of the mat with my elbow before the spill hit. Has anyone else had a close call with drinks at the table that made you rethink your setup?

I lost a copy of an old 18xx game the same way back in 2017. Some guy knocked over a soda and it ran right under my board before I could react. The whole thing was ruined, paper maps are just done after that. So yeah, I feel your pain on that one. I keep drinks on a separate side table now, no exceptions.

Man that's rough... paper maps really don't stand a chance against soda. I had a buddy lose a 1980s Avalon Hill game the same way, the map just turned to mush. Separate side table is the only way to go now, learned that lesson the hard way too.
