Hosted a game night with 8 strangers last Friday, the mood flopped hard

I thought cooperative games would bring everyone together, but half the group sat silent while one guy took over. Has anyone else dealt with a dominant player killing the fun at an open board game meetup?

5 minutes in and this one guy had already set the entire game plan. That's why I only do co-op games with people I already know can share the spotlight.

Ngl, @grace_perry44 I feel that. Had a group once where one guy spent 15 minutes laying out a whole system for how we'd split loot and roles, basically turned the game into his personal project. I just sat there scrolling my phone until someone else said they wanted to play something different entirely.
