Rant: I sorted my whole collection by weight and now my shelf is a mess
Last month I got it in my head that heavy games should go on the bottom shelf so nothing crushes the small boxes. So I pulled all 60 something games off the shelf and started putting them on my kitchen scale one by one, and that is when I found out about half my collection is oddly light for how big the boxes are. A big box does not mean a heavy game, turns out the insert and air take up a ton of room, and my copy of Terraforming Mars weighs less than a small box of poker chips I have. Now the shelf looks random and I cannot find anything, but the games are safe I guess. Does anyone sort by something that does not backfire like this?
Oh man, my buddy did the exact same thing last year and it drove him nuts. He weighed everything, wrote the numbers on little stickers, stuck them on the side of each box, and then sorted his whole shelf by pounds. Two weeks later he could not remember where half his stuff went because he kept thinking of games by name, not by how heavy they were. He finally gave up and went back to sorting by player count, so now the two player games sit together and the big party games have their own spot. It sounds boring but he says it actually works because that is how he picks a game anyway, by how many people showed up. Weight just does not match how your brain looks for stuff on a shelf.
