Wrote off solo board gaming as sad until I played Spirit Island alone for 3 hours straight last Saturday

My buddy couldn't make game night and I was stuck with a two-player co-op game, so I just ran both spirits myself and it ended up being way more strategic and intense than playing with another person, has anyone else found solo mode actually fixes some games instead of just being a backup?

Doesn't Spirit Island actually get better solo since you can perfectly coordinate the spirits without someone else messing up your plan? Running two handed feels like playing chess against yourself in the best way possible.

Have you found any spirits that work better together than others? I've been playing Spirit Island solo for about a year now, and I totally get what you mean about that perfect coordination. But here's the thing, @skylerm55, after a while I started missing the chaos of real multiplayer. You can simulate it a bit by using the "France" adversary that adds extra interaction with the colonists. I also like to make house rules where each spirit has a different "turn order" to keep me on my toes. It's not the same as another person, but it stops it from feeling like a solo puzzle every time.
