Finally hit 500 welds without a rework - here is what changed for me.
I kept a log for the last 8 months on a big tank job in Baton Rouge and hitting that number made me realize it was all about dialing in my preheat consistency, anyone else track their personal stats like this?

Dialing in preheat consistency is smart, but I bet tracking your rod angle per pass helped more than you think.

Oh man, I really think people overthink this whole welding thing sometimes. Like yeah keeping your rod angle steady is good practice but I see guys acting like a 2 degree tilt is gonna ruin the whole job. If your preheat is right and your metal is clean, you gotta really mess up bad for the rod angle to matter that much. I've laid down some pretty sloppy passes that still passed inspection just fine. Not saying track it if you want to, but this aint brain surgery you know?
