Just realized I burned $340 on a hydraulic torque wrench I used 4 times on a tank job in Gary
Bought a 1 inch drive hydraulic torque wrench two winters back for a vessel job in Gary, Indiana. Figured I would use it on every flange from there on out. Turned out the guy running the crew had his own set, and the plant required us to use their calibrated tools anyway. I used mine maybe 4 times on a couple of pump skids before it went into the gang box for good. Add the sockets and the calibration sticker and I was out $340 for a tool that sat in the box. A rented one from the supply house runs about $50 a day, which would have cost me under $200 over that whole job. Anyone else buy a big tool for one job and end up eating the cost?
