Old timer told me to stop chasing tight fits, best advice I ignored for 3 years

At a shutdown in Gary, this fitter with 40 years kept saying my flange bolts needed to spin free, not fight me. I brushed it off until I blew 6 hours on one pass box and he fixed it in 20 minutes. Anyone else have a habit that some crusty vet nagged you about until you finally tried it their way?
