Dropped $60 on a book club pick I couldn't finish past page 40, and I'm still mad about it
Last month our group voted on a new novel and I ran out to a store in Denver to grab a hardcover copy for $60 because I wanted to support the pick. I got 40 pages in and just could not do it, the writing was so slow and the characters all sounded the same. I brought it up at our meetup and two other people admitted they had not finished it either, but nobody wanted to say anything first. We wasted a whole meeting dancing around a book half of us did not read instead of picking something better. Now I have this $60 doorstop on my shelf and I keep staring at it. Do you all have a rule for bailing on a pick early, or do you push through no matter what?
