The day I stopped washing my eggs and everything clicked

I used to wash every single egg my girls laid, scrubbing off dirt and poop with warm water. I thought I was being clean and keeping my family safe. Then about 3 months ago, I read a post on here about the bloom and how washing actually removes that natural protective coating. I still didn't believe it until I left a dirty egg on the counter for 2 weeks and it stayed fresh while a washed one went bad in the fridge in 10 days. Now I just brush off the dry stuff with a scrubbie and stick them in the carton directly. Has anyone else had that moment where you realized a basic thing you were doing was totally backwards?

I called to fix a billing error and sat on hold for 45 minutes before they hung up on me. Has anyone else had that happen with a utility provider?

My Chemex cracked mid-pour after 8 years of daily use

Was making my morning brew last Tuesday and heard this little ping, then watched hot water and grounds run all over the counter. That Chemex was a hand-me-down from my aunt who bought it at a shop in Portland back in 2016. Anyone else have an old brewing method fail on them out of nowhere?

Chat support said my payment cleared but the funds never arrived

Last Tuesday I paid my credit card through the app, got a confirmation number and everything, but the balance didn't update for 48 hours. Turned out their 'real time' system only works if you pay before 2pm EST, otherwise it's just a pending hold. Has anyone else had a payment get stuck in limbo like that?

Used to book hotels through Expedia every time, now I call the front desk directly after a $60 lesson

Last summer I booked a 3 night stay at a Hampton Inn in Portland through Expedia for $180. When I got there, they told me my room was given away because of an 'overbooking error' on Expedia's end. Had to scramble and pay $240 at a Super 8 down the street. Now I just call the hotel direct, ask if they can match the online rate, and I've gotten it to work 4 out of 5 times. Plus no third party nonsense if something goes wrong. Anyone else dump the booking sites after a bad experience?

Changed my mind about community college being a waste of time

I used to think community college was just for people who couldn't get into a real university. Then my buddy Mike from high school finished at Santa Monica College with zero debt and got a solid IT job 6 months later making $48k a year. Seeing him buy a house in Anaheim last month while I'm still paying off my one year at a state school really made me reconsider my whole take on this. Anybody else have a friend who went that route and did better than the traditional 4 year crowd?

Serious question, has anyone else seen the new health department report on cross-contamination from kitchen towels?

I just read the one from the county health board, and it says 89% of tested towels in commercial kitchens had traces of raw chicken bacteria. Where do you guys stand on switching to single-use paper for certain stations?

Appreciation post: I finally figured out how to get past the 'mid-series slump' in long anime

I mean, I kept dropping shows like One Piece around the 200 episode mark because it felt like a drag. I tried skipping filler, but that wasn't enough. What actually worked was switching to the 'One Pace' fan edit for the Dressrosa arc, which cut out like 45 hours of padding. It made the pacing feel like a modern seasonal show again. Has anyone else found a specific edit or watch method that saved a series for them?

Had to choose between a full run of 'Saga' or a mint copy of 'Amazing Fantasy #15' last month

A guy at the local con in Phoenix offered me a trade. I could take his complete 'Saga' run, issues 1-66, or a graded 2.0 copy of the first Spider-Man appearance. I went with the 'Saga' books because I actually want to read them, not just own a slab. It was the right call, I'm halfway through and it's incredible. Anyone else ever pass on a grail for something you'd actually use?

Spent $200 on a Wacom screen protector and it ruined my pen nibs in a week

I got a new Cintiq and bought the official textured protector for better grip. It cost about $200 and felt great at first. But the rough surface ground down my pen nibs to nubs after just seven days of normal drawing. Now I'm out the protector cost and need new nibs constantly. Has anyone found a good protector that doesn't eat your tools?
