Our club's 'The Great Gatsby' meeting turned into a silent standoff
Last Thursday, we had a 45 minute debate about whether Daisy Buchanan was a victim or just selfish. Two members got so heated they stopped talking to each other. The weird part was the silence, just the sound of someone's dog barking in the background. It ended with someone finally saying, 'Can we at least agree the green light was a metaphor?' Has your group ever had a debate that just shut down?

The butler did it debate really falling apart, that is just wild to me. I can picture people sitting there, staring at their coffee cups, not saying a word. And @hayden_martin29 you mentioning the silent snack passing is exactly the kind of awkward that makes me cringe. There is something almost funny about getting that worked up over who committed a fictional murder.

That green light was a symbol, not a metaphor. Our group fell apart over whether Nick was a reliable narrator.

Remember my friend's book club? They had a full meltdown over whether the butler did it in some Agatha Christie book, kind of like @jakelee's Nick thing. That debate got so cold they just started passing the snacks in silence.
