My buddy the mechanic swore by PB Blaster over Kroil for rusted bolts

After fighting a seized tie rod end on my driveway for two hours with Kroil and a torch, I tried his PB Blaster trick and had it loose in under 20 minutes - has anyone else found a specific brand that just works better for certain jobs?

The hardware store clerk who told me to ignore the manual

I was rebuilding a lawn mower engine about 10 years ago and a kid at Ace Hardware told me to skip the torque specs and just tighten by feel. Said he'd been doing it for years that way. I listened to him, got it all back together, and the head gasket blew after three starts. Cost me another 40 bucks and a whole Saturday to redo it. That clerk wasn't even working there a month later. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from someone who seemed confident but was just wrong?

Took me 3 hours to realize I was reading the instructions wrong

Picked up a copy of Terraforming Mars last weekend. Sat down with my buddy and we tried to figure out the rules. Three hours later we still hadn't finished a single round. Turned out I skipped the whole phase about standard projects. We were just hoarding cards and doing nothing. Had to restart from scratch. Anyone else waste a whole night on a rulebook fail?

Compared a $300 pressure washer to a $50 one I borrowed from a neighbor in Corrales

The cheap one took twice as long to strip the moss off my driveway but the expensive one left a gouge in my concrete that I'm still patching, so what's the real cost here, anyone else find the middle ground works best?

Serious question: is it worth paying $250 for a Klein tools crimper or is the $40 Amazon one good enough?

I dropped $250 on a Klein crimper last year for the coax work I do around here in Phoenix. Thing feels solid, no complaints. But my buddy uses a cheap one he got online for $40 and says his connections pass signal just fine. I'm wondering if I wasted my money or if the Klein will actually hold up longer. Anyone have a cheap crimper fail on them after a few months?

Just realized my espresso machine scale was off by 2 grams

I've been pulling shots for months with my Breville and thought my ratios were perfect. Then I checked my scale against a calibration weight and found it was reading 2 grams light the whole time. My shots have been way over extracted and sour. Has anyone else had their gear secretly messing up their routine?

Why does nobody talk about using a coax stripper for Tefzel wire

Spent 25 minutes wrestling with a bundle of Tefzel in a King Air last week, then tried my coax stripper on a whim - perfect strip every time without nicking the conductor. Has anyone else found a random tool that works better than the 'right' one for a specific job?

That moment I realized I'd been bagging my dollar bin comics upside down for like 15 years...

Some guy at my local shop in Portland pointed it out gently while I was flipping through a stack, and I just froze because suddenly every single comic I'd stored since 2006 made horrible sense as to why the spines were all messed up.

Unpopular opinion: prefinished plywood is overrated for custom cabinets

My supplier talked me into using prefinished cherry ply for a kitchen remodel 2 months ago, said it saves time and looks cleaner. But the edges were a pain to match and the finish chipped when I cut it. Anyone else think raw ply with your own finish still comes out better?

Three years ago I swore by my old analog panel setup

At a shop in Tucson last month, I had to troubleshoot a Garmin G5 install on a Cessna 172 and it took me 45 minutes just to find the power wire was loose on the back. An older tech walked over and showed me how the G5's self-test page flags voltage issues immediately, something I always ignored because I trusted my multimeter more. Has anyone else switched from old-school methods to digital displays and regretted not doing it sooner?
