Warning: my 'quick' compost bin fix took 14 hours and a chipper rental in Denver
Last Saturday I noticed my compost bin had turned into a solid brick of wet leaves and grass clippings. I figured a couple hours with a pitchfork would sort it out. Three hours later my arms were dead and the core was still rock hard. I ended up renting a 10 inch chipper shredder from Home Depot for $65 and breaking the whole pile down in layers. Took me until 9 pm, but now it actually smells like soil instead of swamp. Anyone else had a compost pile turn into cement, or am I the only one who skipped turning it for 4 months straight?
