Spending six weeks on one book made our club debates drag on way too long

We picked 'The Overstory' and set a slow pace, thinking it would help us appreciate it more. But by week four, people were forgetting early plot points and the talks got repetitive. I think tight reading schedules push us to engage better, not let things fade. Next time, I'm pushing for a one-month max on any pick.

Had a similar thing with an audiobook last year. Listened to 'Cloud Atlas' over two months because the narrator's voice was so soothing. By the final section, I was just enjoying the cadence and barely tracking the story threads anymore. Rushed the last few hours just to be done with it.

Barely tracking the story threads? That's my default setting for audiobooks.

@chen.robin, soothing voices can make me lose the plot too.
