Spent 6 months stuck on chapter 4 of The Overstory and finally gave up
I joined a book club that started The Overstory last January and we were supposed to finish by March. I kept rereading the same sections about the mulberry tree because it felt like nothing was happening. After 6 months I just told the group I was out and switched to a shorter novel. Has anyone else hit a wall with a book that felt like it was going nowhere?

Ngl that mulberry tree section made me realize how much life feels like background noise now.

The mulberry tree part hit me hard too because my grandma had one in her backyard. I used to sit under it for hours just watching the birds fight over the berries. Now I barely notice the trees outside my window. It's like we traded real life for a screen and forgot how to just be still. That quiet feeling of being present is so rare these days. It makes me wonder what else I'm missing by always rushing through the day.
