Warning: That hyped book club pick from 2020 is way different now
I was in a book club that read "The Vanishing Half" back in 2020 right when it came out. Everyone loved it and we talked about identity and race for two hours straight. Fast forward to last month when a new member suggested we read it again. The discussion went totally different this time around, people were way more critical of the pacing and some of the character choices. It's like the book hasn't changed but the way we talk about those topics has shifted in four years. Has anyone else had a book hit different after a few years?

Oh man, totally. My book club did the same thing with "American Dirt." Back in 2020 everyone was all about how important it was, but when we revisited it last year half the people were like wait this is kind of a mess.
