Dropped $340 on a standing press and it saved my whole setup
Honestly, I put off buying a real standing press for almost two years because I thought my stacks of boards and encyclopedias were good enough. I finally cracked and spent $340 on a used one from a retiring guy in Dayton, and I should have done it way sooner. Before that, every text block I pressed came out slightly rounded on the spine edge, and I kept blaming my casing-in technique. Turns out it was just uneven pressure, and the press fixed it in one afternoon. My first book after that sat flat as a board, and I actually felt dumb for waiting so long. The other thing nobody mentions is how much faster the whole job goes when you are not stacking and restacking weights. If you are still using book stacks, what finally pushed you to get a real press, or are you stubborn like I was?
