Fancy laying press was a waste, give me a stack of boards

Dropped $140 on a brass laying press for my finish work and it sits on the shelf while I clamp between two scrap boards like I did in Joe's basement years ago. Anyone else found the cheap DIY route beats the expensive tool every time?
