For the first two years I pressed each signature with a heavy book and a cheap plastic bone folder I got from a craft store, and my spines always looked lumpy. Last spring a bookbinder in Portland showed me how to score the fold with a bamboo folder before sewing, and now all my text blocks sit flat. Has anyone else switched to a different folder and noticed a real difference in how the paper takes the fold?
