Visited the library in Salem and saw a display of modern rebinds with exposed spines.
They used neon thread and industrial fabrics, which really made the structure pop. Has anyone else worked with non-traditional materials for a contemporary look?

Oh the exposed spines with neon thread sounds so cool. My friend actually tried something like that with old seatbelt webbing for a cover, it looked super modern but the stitching was a nightmare.

Yeah, the material choice is the real killer. Seatbelt webbing is so thick and stiff, it's like trying to sew through a garden hose. I bet using a heavy-duty leather needle and a walking foot on the machine would help a lot. Even then, you'd probably need to punch the holes first with an awl for the thicker parts. That neon thread would look amazing against the gray webbing, but it must have snapped a ton.
