Hot take: the 2pm spreadsheet audit is where my soul goes to die
Every Wednesday at 2pm sharp I have to sit in the conference room on the 4th floor and cross check 340 invoice line items against a system that updates maybe once an hour. Two weeks ago I hit row 286 and the whole screen froze, so I just sat there staring at a spinning wheel for 11 minutes while my manager Todd watched from across the table. I ended up faking a cough and going to the break room to eat a granola bar I did not even want. When I came back the page had reloaded and wiped the 40 rows I already verified, so I did them all over again with a pen and paper like it was 1998. Todd said 'good catch on the freeze' like I had solved something instead of just surviving it. Does anyone else have a weekly task that exists purely because some computer somewhere refuses to talk to another computer?
