Can we talk about how "just start small" advice kept me stuck for 2 years on my credit card debt?
Everyone says pay the smallest balance first for a quick win. I did that for 14 months and my total debt barely moved, maybe $600 down on $9,400. Last April my sister sat me down at her kitchen table in Boise and made me list every card with its interest rate next to it. Seeing 26% next to a $2,100 balance while my $400 balance sat at 12% made me switch to paying the highest rate first, and I cleared $5,800 in 11 months. The "small wins" thing works if you have no self control, but the math does not care about your feelings. Anyone else ditch the snowball method and actually get somewhere?
