My credit card debt dropped from $8,000 to zero in 18 months after I stopped using the cards.
I cut them up and put them in a freezer bag full of water. For the first 3 months I just paid the minimums while I saved a $1,000 emergency fund. Then I threw every extra dollar at the smallest balance, using the snowball method. Did anyone else find that physically removing the cards was the only thing that worked?

Freezing them in a block of ice is genius.

Freezing the cards seems like extra work. I just deleted mine from all online stores and my phone wallet. The real fix is changing your habits, not doing a magic trick with a freezer bag. Wren_thomas16, the ice block is a funny idea but it's just a delay tactic. If you want to buy something, you'll just thaw it out or call for a replacement card. Setting hard rules for yourself works better than a block of ice.
