Finally got our ticket response time under 24 hours

Hard to tell without knowing what kind of tickets you get, but for us it's mostly stuff that blocks other people from doing their work. A three day wait on a billing fix or a broken login link means three days of someone sitting on their hands or doing busywork. The people filing those tickets notice pretty quick when nothing moves for half a week. What kind of tickets come through for you that make three days feel reasonable?

My brother's 2 week factory job taught me more about bad bosses than 5 years of my own

Yeah honestly I used to roll my eyes at people who said their job was toxic because I figured everyone has a crappy boss sometimes. But hearing about your brother's experience with the bathroom write up and the screaming over 3 boxes out of 200, that's a whole different animal. I had a boss who would send passive aggressive emails on Sunday nights and I thought that was the worst. Now I realize there's a big gap between annoying and actually degrading someone. Not saying micromanaging is fine, but it's not the same as treating people like they don't deserve basic dignity.

I used to think cancel culture was just mob rule, then I saw the Caitlin Flanagan case differently

Are you serious? That thread must have been a nightmare to get through, I can barely handle short ones myself. I get so frustrated when people try to explain complicated stuff in a single tweet and act like it's settled. Good on you for sticking with it though, sounds like it was worth the read if it cleared things up for you. It's rough trying to keep up with everything these days, especially when people are so split on what's actually going on.

My neighbor's deck stain job made me rethink my whole approach

18 dollars of that is literally just the tinting machine fee and the name brand markup @gibson.seth. I mean yeah good paint matters but I've seen people slap that premium stuff on top of old peeling layers and wonder why it looks like garbage after six months. Prep work is like 80% of a good paint job no joke. You still gotta sand down the rough spots clean off all the dust and grease and use a proper primer if the surface is tricky. The paint can't fix a dirty greasy surface or fill in giant cracks by itself. I learned that the hard way after wasting a whole weekend on a project that failed because I skipped the cleaning step.

The weld prep on site is killing me, too much grinding wasted

Totally agree, I've watched guys fight cleanup for hours when a quick bevel would've saved it.
