The tape measure lie I told myself for a year

I kept marking cuts wrong on installs, always off by about an eighth of an inch. Turned out I was reading the tape from the 1-inch mark instead of the hook, every single time. A customer in Columbus pointed it out after he saw me measure three times and still cut a baseboard short. Has anyone else had a dumb measuring habit that took forever to catch, or was it just me?
