Cleaning business owner here: I was over billing for years without knowing it
I ran my house cleaning company for 4 years in Denver, and always charged a flat hourly rate, even for deep cleans that took twice as long. Last month a customer showed me their invoice from my competitor, and they were charging per square foot with add-ons. I did the math on my last 20 jobs and realized I left at least $3,400 on the table. Has anyone else switched their pricing model mid-career and had clients push back on the new rates?

Flat rates keep things simple and your customers know exactly what they're paying for. Switching to square footage pricing just gives you more chances to argue about what counts as a deep clean. Your old pricing might have been lower, but it also kept your books easy and your clients happy, which is worth something.

Honestly, I switched to per-room pricing and it cut way down on those annoying "but you didn't clean under the fridge" fights.
