Hot take: my old boss's 2 hour Monday meetings saved my career and I'm tired of pretending they were a waste
I know everyone here hates pointless meetings, and my old boss in Sacramento did hold a 2 hour all hands every Monday. But when I added up my notes from those meetings, 14 of the 40 raises and promotions I saw over 3 years went to people who spoke up in that room, including me. My current boss skips meetings and just sends vibe emails, and I have no clue what he actually values or who gets the good projects. I still think most meetings are padding, but killing the only weekly time the whole team was in one room made things worse, not better. Did anyone else's awful boss accidentally do one thing right that your new 'chill' boss doesn't?
Your boss's meeting was basically a live scoreboard for who's got the juice, and skipping that just means the info goes underground. Start booking 15 min one on ones with your current boss so you're not stuck guessing who he likes.
