My old boss told me I 'emailed like a robot' and it stuck with me

I used to write these super stiff emails at work, full of jargon and formal greetings like 'per my previous correspondence.' My manager at the time literally said, 'Dude, you sound like a help desk script from 2004.' It stung but she was right. I started adding a simple greeting like 'Hey [Name]' and cutting out all the fluff. Now I get way faster replies and fewer 'can you clarify this' follow ups. Has anyone else got feedback that totally flipped how they communicate?

Wait, wait. "Help desk script from 2004"? That is SO specific and SO brutal. I can't believe a boss would actually say that to someone's face, but I guess that's the kind of honesty that sticks with you. Honestly though, cutting the "per my previous correspondence" garbage is the best thing anyone can do for their inbox. I used to write stuff like "I trust this message finds you well" and people would reply asking if I was being sarcastic.
