TIL I was the problem employee for a whole year because of one bad boss
My first boss after college in Charlotte would yell if you asked a question, so I stopped asking and just guessed. I messed up a client report last week, and my new manager just calmly said, 'Hey, why didn't you just ask me?' That was the moment I realized my old boss trained me to be scared, not careful. Anyone else have a work habit they had to unlearn after a bad manager?

My last boss at the fencing company would lose it if you double-checked measurements. For a whole year I just eyeballed it and prayed. The new guy saw me doing it and was like "dude, the tape measure is right there." Had to relearn that asking isn't a sign you're dumb, it's how you don't build a crooked fence.

Honestly, I see it the other way. A good employee learns to adapt and find answers on their own. You can't just blame a boss for your own lack of problem solving later on.
