Hot take: I dropped $120 on a fancy Japanese pruning shear and it did nothing special

Everyone in this group raves about those high-end pruning shears from Japan. I bought a pair of Okatsune 8 inch shears for $120 last spring based on all the hype. Honestly my old $25 Felcos cut just as clean and feel better in my hand. The Japanese ones are sharp but the grip is too small and they rust if you look at them wrong. Am I the only one who thinks spending over $50 on pruners is a total waste?

Did you accidentally buy a pair meant for a child's craft project or something? The tiny grip on those fancy Japanese shears makes me think they were designed for a dollhouse gardener. At least your old Felcos won't start rusting the second you look at a watering can. Guess you paid $95 for the privilege of saying you own Japanese pruners while using the $25 ones that actually work.

Yeah a buddy of mine got a pair of those expensive Japanese pruners last spring. First week he had them he dropped one blade on a concrete patio and it actually chipped. He was so mad he just sat there staring at it for like five minutes. Meanwhile his old Felcos are still kicking after ten years of being tossed in a truck bed with dirt and mud all over them. He still uses the Japanese ones for light stuff but grabs the beat up ones for anything real.
