I finally killed my favorite fern by overwatering it

Honestly, I thought I was being a good plant parent by giving my Boston fern a drink every 2 days, but last week it turned yellow and mushy. I guess I should have let the soil dry out between waterings, lesson learned. Has anyone else killed a plant by being too nice to it?

Three days is usually the sweet spot for letting that top inch dry out, too much love is a real thing with ferns.

Oh man, "too much love is a real thing with ferns" - I've killed more ferns that way than I'd like to admit lol. I used to water mine every other day because I thought they needed constant moisture, but they just got all yellow and droopy on me. Now I wait until that top inch is bone dry too, and it's crazy how much better they look. I even let mine get a little thirsty now where I can stick my finger in and feel no dampness at all before I water again. It feels wrong at first but they honestly thrive on that neglect.
