My barber in Dallas taught me to grow moss with buttermilk and now my whole retaining wall is green
I had a bare concrete retaining wall out back that looked awful for two years. Tried buying moss starts online twice and both times they dried up in a week, $40 down the drain. Then my barber, who is big into terrariums, told me to just blend a handful of moss from a shady spot in my yard with a cup of buttermilk and some water in a blender, then paint it on the wall. I did it in April, kept it misted every morning for about three weeks, and by June there was real green fuzz spreading across the whole thing. The buttermilk keeps it damp and feeds it, I guess. Cost me about $3. Now I want to try it on some rocks by the mailbox but I am not sure how it handles full afternoon sun. Anyone here done this on a sunny spot and did it hold up, or should I stick to shade only?
